The Bosco Does SXSW

April 18th, 2012

In March, The Bosco team made the journey by van from Brooklyn to Austin for the annual interactive/film/music festival SXSW. Being one of the largest festivals in the United States, SXSW was a great opportunity for The Bosco to get some good exposure and showcase our product to thousands of people. Overall the experience was invaluable, as we took on a lot of projects and stayed for the entire duration of the 2-week festival.

Our clients during this trip included Face.com, Tumblr, Samsung, Made In NY, and Grubwithus. The biggest integrations were with Face.com and Grubwithus. For Face.com, a facial recognition platform, we customized our booth to be a printing station for Face.com’s facial recognition app, Klik. Party go-ers would take pictures with Klik, which would identify them through Face.com’s API, and our printing station would instantly print out a branded photo. The integration lasted the whole duration of the festival, and 1000s of photos were tagged and printed.

The other big integration was with Grubwithus, a social dining platform based in Los Angeles. Grubwithus had unlimited access to our services the entire duration of the festival. Grubwithus used The Bosco Booth as an activation for their service and collected several thousand email addresses. The booth made appearances at events hosted by Klout, legendary Texas BBQ restaurant Lambert’s, and at the Heart of Texas Rockfest. We also combined with digital media-professional group Digital L.A. for their annual bash, Dynamite Network cocktail party at the Old School Bar & Grill.

The Bosco also teamed up with Brooklyn media company Learned Evolution, Samsung Mobile and Twitter for #FEED, multiple nights of music and partying at the Austin Museum of Art’s Arthouse. Teengirl Fantasy, Araabmusic, Fred Falke, RJD2, plus others all delivered musical performances. The Bosco delivered printed pictures and tweet-able gifs, instantly available to view and share via our iPad sharing station.

For their party called “#RobotripSXSW,” digital media enterprises Tumblr and Barbarian Group invited The Bosco to set up in the green room of Austin’s renowned venue, Mohawk. Out front the crowd enjoyed performances by Wavves and others, while backstage performers, VIP’s and anyone who could sneak in had some fun with our animated gifs.

The Bosco was among many sponsors, including New York Tech Meetup and Gust of the event Made In New York: Austin. Made in New York is a collective of thirty-plus New York based businesses who. We used an awesome custom wood backdrop and served up animated gifs long into the night. Select eyewear and the bold feather-hat were provided by New York-based Warby Parker.

Overall, SXSW was a huge learning experience and opportunity to get involved with some incredible companies.
